Hello Amy,

Glad you are interested in Geotools.

We hope to release Geotools 2.2.0 on Wednesday. This will be the first
release with the new JMapPane class that can be used to display data.
The class is in the gt2-mappane module in the org.geotools.gui.swing
package. In that same package there's a MapViewer.java class which is
the only working example we currently have. That should be enough to get
you playing.

As for the docs, it would be great to have help. Unfortunately, it's
really hard to point you to a subject/section because right now I'm
trying to understand enough to get a reasonable outline going. Also I'm
only at the very beginning of the documentation effort. Since the whole
idea of this effort is to be systematic, it's hard for me to delegate a
subject area to you. However, I'm willing to put some work in that
direction if you are interested. I'll warn you that it will take a fair
amount of time to feel like you understand any corner of the library. Is
there any subject in particular that you'd like to work on?

If you have any questions along the way, please speak up on the list.

Hope you enjoy using the library,
adrian
