That is something I was thinking of only this morning :-)

MapContext does need some work, some of the steps (hacks) I had to use
yesterday to get WMSMapLayer working should be rolled into the
MapContext. I would also be nice if you could read and write Web Map
Contexts and the new OGC Contexts (which the revision working group is
working on now) that include all the good stuff you want directly.

Who is module maintainer for Render, the pom lists Jesse Eichar,
Andrea Aime and Simone Giannecchini? Would any one mind if I start to
rework the org.geotools.map package?
