Don't worry. I'm happy to contribute if I can. But it's hard for me: I 
work on geotools since 2 weeks, and this is the first time i develop 
using JAVA. After some try, I fixed your example making the following 
replacement:

// OLD:

         ColorLookupFunction  colourFn  =  new  
ColorLookupFunction(featureSource.getFeatures(),  
filterFactory.property(attributeName));

// NEW:

         ExpressioncolourFn  =  filterFactory.property(attributeName);

I made the fix on my code and it worked, but you should check it on your 
example code to be sure.
