Java is a good choice in extensive market scenarios, however C/C++ in
specific applications (like embedded devices and in general almost all
the industrial applications) is actually the only solution available. I
think Java is good for high level applications, mobile devices, and so
on. These mass-market scenarios deal well with design patterns,
portability, etc... I think that we must look back each time we have to
do a design choice: explore the alternatives, analyze the trade-offs,
take a decision. There is not "the solution" but only specific
solutions: Java, C++ and others are only example of them. I challenge
you to write an super-fast and light-weight OS core in Java! :D But we
are talking about GIS, hence Java is the best solution. For that reason,
I see your happiness :)
