Hi Catherine,

I'd highly recommend CartoDB (http://cartodb.com/), a cloud-based tool/spatial database for quickly creating map visualizations.  With CartoDB, one can easily import data (most common formats supported), design and publish interactive maps, share data, etc.

The students can sign up for the free account for the class.   Also, the pricing is very reasonable for non profits.

Regards,
Jennifer

Hi All,

I’m teaching an elective cartography/geospatial mapping techniques summer-school class at UC Berkeley this summer.  The class is for junior-high school kids who are at UCB summer school taking advanced courses in other subjects, and doing the mapping for fun.  I’m looking for a easily accessible open source map app that I could teach the students in an hour or so, and that they could easily play and create with for a couple hours after that (only one three hour class will be dedicated to the topic).   During other sessions, I’ll be teaching remote sensing, GPS, GIS, and classic cartography.

Any new cool open source map apps out there that I should know about?  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Much thanks,

Catherine
