I don't have a use case now, but this is a cool feature and I reckon
sometime within the next 5 years I'm likely to want to use it. And at
that point, I'd be hoping the code is available to me to hack.
Ideally, a Rectification tool should be incorprated as a feature in all
OpenSource Geospatial clients.
Heavy clients (UDig, QGIS, etc) would want to incorporate the
functionality directly into their code.
AJAX clients (OpenLayers, Mapbuilder etc) would want to access the
functionality as a Web Service.

Hi Cameron,
The Map Rectifier on labs.metacarta.com uses a bunch of open source tools,
most notably GDAL and OpenLayers. The new code is mostly glue.
GDAL team: thank you!
We're considering making a larger service out of this and are figuring out
what parts to open source. If you or anyone else has a *particular* use
or interest that would be served by open sourcing the integration code,
we'd love to hear about it.
We'd also like to hear what you like or do not like about the rectifier.
Thanks,
John
