I think of "saffron" as the color of Buddhist monks' cloaks.  I cannot
afford saffron spice for cooking, even if I knew what to do with it.

In early '80s I was buying spices at small neighborhood grocery store.  In
the alphabetical display there was a small note  --   "Ask At Counter for
Saffron".  I did so out of curiosity.  "Oh.  It's so expensive that we
keep it off the shelves."

Do you suppose some conniving breeder conned the NGS into adopting
"Saffron" as a term?  Instantly increasing value of his/her pups?  Like a
stock market coup?  (*grins*)
