Danna, I have been bitten 2 times by 3 different gerbils before. I was
separating fighting, adult, FEMALE gerbils! When I stuck my hand in their
tank BOTH gerbils grabbed onto my thumb and didn't let go. The 3rd time was
when I was doing the split cage thingy and one of the gerbils was going nuts!
She did not like the other gerbil. Before I put on the lid she jumped out
and got on another 10gal tank lid and when I picked her up (with her still
VERY upset with another gerbils in HER tank) she bit me.
These were not nips because I was bleeding and I still have the scar.
Yaknow, I've discovered that my gerbils are a litmus test of people. :) I've had several friends handle my gerbils, and the only ones they've ever bitten were my mean-spirited sister (go spoo! :) and another not-so-nice friend of mine. It wasn't that they were being handled improperly, they just instinctivley knew who to bite! :)
