>>Have many people on the list been nipped or bitten by their gerbils?
(not including the exploratory mouthing or nibbling) Or is this rare?
-- Donna A.<<
I was once bitten hard enough to draw blood. It was mainly the result of
inexperience as we hadn't had the boys very long. We had them out in their
exercise pool and I kept trying to pet Sam. He kept discouraging this.
When I didn't pick up on the meaning of his behavior, he reinforced it by
sinking his teeth in my index finger. Now I pay much closer attention to
their body language. 8-) But the main point here is that he did not bite
me for no reason. He had given me plenty of warning he didn't want to be
touched, I just didn't realize it. But we have now learned and if the boys
get nippy, then we try not to bother them until they are ready to be
sociable again.
