biting gerbil

I have a gerbil I took home over spring break and no matter what I do he bites. (except for when I have a glove on) I tried to bribe him with a sunflower seed and he just came up to my hand bit me and ran away (thats kinda funny) it doesn't hurt that much but I would like to get him out of the habit of it. I never chase him around the cage I just wait until kilo crawls into my hand.I always wash my hands really good before I pick him up. I asked my friend lisa what to do (she is on the list) and she said anytime kilo bites me blow in his face so when I did he bit me really hard (I'll never do that again!) I do have toys for him to chew on in his cage I have a wheel for him and I usually put some treats in there for him. I have no clue why he is doing this. Do you have any advice??
