I've seen these wheels, too. However, if the animal sits in it and
literally rocks it back and forth, if the little magnetic thing the
sensor detects goes over the detector, it adds a foot. If the
gerb just sits there and rocks it, he/she can be racking up
clicks and not going anywhere. (I have animals that do that
NOW, they make me queasy to watch them.)
So, if you have a rocker, you aren't getting an accurate reading.
As for conversion, it is three miles to five kilometers..and for
every fifty kilometers, add one to the miles. So: 100km is
60 mi; and because 100 divided by fifty is two add 2 to
the 60. So 100km equals 62 miles.
[used to driving in Canada and having to do the conversions
as I go]
I was going to look at doing a little fancier and more gnaw proof
and QUIETER version of one of those, and perhaps put something
on it so when you got a 'rocker' it wouldn't count it....
Anyway, I figured my hubby would like dinking with the electronics
part. Give him something to do....[he LOVES projects like this,
it's the R&D heart in his engineering soul]
