We practiced it many times - but there are some rules - we leave them
both in same aquarium and separate 'em with mesh divider (the same we
use for introductions) - so that they can see and smell each other !
We also let the male go into female's part (and smell his children)
and vice versa (but just for a few minutes while they'd start mating) !
The only "problem" that occured the last time is that male was a bit
aggressive towards another male (his son from one of the previous
litters) who lives with 'em !
Enjoy !
