I heartily agree with this!
We also had a Tyzzer's outbreak over a year ago, and we
seem to have gerbils with a lot of genetic problems (tumors,
teeth growing wrong).
We've spend quite a bit of money on their care and have gone
without a vacation and a few other things, but we haven't
regretted it.
And after some searching I finally found a vet who knows at
least a little about gerbils and has given us quite a few
discounts for several tumor surgeries.
It's still not cheap, but we know we've given 3 of our
gerbils a longer life for it.
