I think you may be referring to Hartz Bonanza food for Hamsters and Gerbils.  Personally, I think you may be going to a bit more trouble than is necessary by removing particular items from a mix.  I find that by buying a variety of mixes, my gerbils all seem to get what they need and are not overweight.  I do keep a bag of sunflower seeds on hand for my young, pregnant and nursing gerbils, and to give as treats to all of them. But I find that they seem to love Cheerios just as much.  I guess my main message is relax! As long as you are feeding them healthy mixes, and they don't appear to have any problems, why drive yourself bonkers picking through their food?
Here's a helpful site in comparing gerbil foods: http://netxp.com/rick/gerbils/genetics.html
Hope this helps

one other comment on the new feed mix I just discovered (while picking out
sunflower seeds grrrrrrr. that this mix also appears to contain dried
potatoes and raisins along with other unidentifiable apparent dried fruit
