it is clear to me, that from gerber only, there are no logic information of connection between tracks on different layers (what was the netlist on schematic stage). So this feature it is a desired but can be far in the future, maybe as you say using the drill/plated holes information, the stackup info is know by gerbv (supposing the user put the layers in the right order), like ViewMate Pro do. What is a RFE for now the possibility to select "by hand", so with many clicks, different tracks at the same time, on different layers (with some key modifiers like SHIFT or CTRL as you want).
