Unfortunately the problem certainly doesn't lie with my ISP. I say
unfortunately, because it's relatively easy to change ISP. But my

perhaps 8 Mb/s, but nowadays it's far lower. Right now I'm getting 1.1
Mb/s, and am poised to cancel the download as soon as I get an
"Unexpected size" error. Which has just occurred, not 2 minutes after

I am a bit confused because you refer to quoted speeds of
100Mbps/40Mbps, but in the next breath you say on some sites you get 10Mbps.
As far as I know the only ISP offering 100Mbit/s is Virgin Media. With
Virgin Media's 100Mbit/s service downloading from Limelight I have
recently been getting download speeds up to 95Mbit/s. That is not to
say I don't get much slower downloads as well.
If you change your default tvmode from hvfsd or dvfsd to hvfxsd you will
halve the amount of data you need to download. Also try each of the the
three CDNs expressly by specifying hvfxsd1, hvfxsd2 and hvfxsd3 in turn.
For me hvfxsd2 (limelight) now seems fastest.
How are you connecting to your router? Speeds over WiFi will be a lot
slower. You will only get the full speed with an Ethernet cable. If
you move to the 200Mbit/s service make sure all your cables are Cat5e or
above and that all switches and your LAN card support Gigabit LAN.
