Ther original poster is running a Macintosh and the code provided below does not
works (as far as I can see) under Macintosh.
BUT, Steve is right, this code works very fine under Windows (XP SP2).
If someone have a work-around for MACINTOSH, and want to share it ???

SocketCore Class is an ancestor of HTTPSocket and have isConnected, so
HTTPSocket certainly have inherited that (I hope so).
