Do you mean that the console is fine until you start the 
libggi app and then the timings get hosed?  In that case, 
eliminate the bad mode definitions from your /etc/fb.modes 
and put in mode definitions that work for your monitor.

You mean with svgalib?  In that case you have to define modelines
in the svgalib configuration files instead.
