You have to assume a minimum supported resolution, especially for games
and the like where speed of your routines matters. Still, it seems that
any hardware capible of running a modern game should be able to do 640x480
resolution. You could also support truly ancient hardware and support
320x200 or 240, but then KGI drivers such as the ones for Matrox cards
don't even work at that resolution last I used them. =p

But modifying dpkg is infeasible, and we've agreed to, among other things,
keep the needs of our users at the forefront of our minds. And from a
user's perspective, something that keeps the system tidy in the normal
case, and works *now*, is much better than idealistic fantasies like a
working dpkg.
