I hope that came more like this. The evolution around is arrested. This is pity. The reason is clear because the GHDL development is not active. By the way I hope that maintainer work will run. The actual outlook is unhappy.
Anyway, the biggest obstacle in maintaining GHDL is the lack of documentation, both at the code level and at the design level (description of file formats, run time interfaces, generated code models). For any rehosting or other major updates, starting with writing this documentation, through reverse-engineering and study of the code, is the best first step.
Today are usually used newer documentation utilities like UML diagrams. This could be a good task for a bachelor thesis to set up a documentation.
