Or, if you are using Linux with XFree86 and you are in the powerful
position of being able to use the root account, add the line

  FontPath "/path/to/your/fonts"

to /etc/X11/XF86Config (may also be named /etc/XF86Config, etc.) where
the other FontPath directives already are.
