@probonopd you seem obsessed with users, as if Geany was a commercial software 
product.  Let me agree with Richard Stallman the father of open source 
development, "We build the software because we want to, or because it provides 
functionality we need/want, we are happy that it is useful to others, but we do 
not gain from users, in fact we may incur a support cost.  Similarly we are sad 
for them if someone cannot/does not use our software, but we do not lose by 
that.  Chasing users is not our purpose"

If an individual wants to provide extra functionality such as packages for 
users (as @fusion809 is doing ), well, thats why its open source, to allow them 
to do so.  We are happy to incorporate low impact pull requests if something is 
preventing that.  But we are not interested in providing packaging and leave it 
to those who are.  As @b4n has demonstrated we are happy to advise and help 
them with it.  But we will not take over maintenance of the package from them.
