Opened #22548 to track the residual-Vec shrink as a follow-up. Scope there covers both candidate shapes (utility-side heuristic, caller-side finalize on the `multi_group_by` builders) plus a benchmark on the 1M-to-1024 pathological case to confirm no regression on the common short-chain path.
