You're getting overly involved in the details. They are several materials, but their exact ABBE may vary. In reality, besides glass you have traditional CR39, polycarbonate , mid index 1.56 area and hi index or ultra I forget at about 6.1 or so. The index results in different thicknesses and a higher index "bends light more stronlgly and therefore needs less thickness to create.
The only time names and such come into play is when you are talking progressives, different brands feel a little different but in more cases people can jump brand without much problem. Most large operations like these online dealers wont sell "off brand lenses", if there is such a thing anymore, as the process has become totallly automated. The worst case scenario are some AR coatings, some can scratch or craze, especially if abused a little, again here, this problem has improved greatly over the past several years as R/D produces better materials. Wal Mart, for example uses mainly Zeiss and Nikon lenses, because it would cost them much more if they used stuff that turned out defective, the process of returning and redoing would kill you, some for any online dealer that wants to stay in the game.
