I assume your intention is to choose smaller lenses so that the edges are as
thin as possible, thus resulting in smaller glasses. But, after a point
they start looking like childrens' frames.

There is another option. Embrace the thickness.

When chosen intentionally, "bad" can be good and *appear* as an intentional
choice. Un-cool can become super-cool. As an example, take a pair of thick
plastic "Buddy Holly" glasses. They're a classic style, and the thick
frames help to mask the thickness of the lens. The fairly wide temple arms
further hide the lenses.

Ditto on rimless. Embrace the thickness...choose a wild design of rimless,
and embrace your blindness.

I started wearing glasses only a few years ago, and originally chose frames
that were as nondescript and "blah" as they could be. As I learned to wear,
and eventually embrace glasses, my frame choices became increasingly
bold...and since bold usually equals a sense of style, the wilder my glasses
became the more compliments I received. It turns out that turning a
disadvantage into an advantage is a GOOD thing! My lenses are nowhere near
as thick as yours, but the same principle applies.

For those with super-high prescriptions, embracing the thickness can be a
good decision. Go wild!
