Thanks for the replies everyone. I must say that "embracing the
thickness" or trying to hide them under thick frames are not good
options. For one thing, at a given point the lenses become blocky on
the sides offering no peripheral vision. Even before that point
though, the sheer weight of those lenses would make them horrible in
humid weather.

I decided to try Optical4less.com since they had the 1.74 ultrathin
lenses at the best prices. After consulting with their staff I decided
on these frames http://www.optical4less.com/alloy-eyeglasses/MB027/
which had a lens width of 46mm. Overall the glasses look fine,
although I think 46mm is the widest I would go for my prescription.
However, I have a new problem: Either they got the prescription
slightly wrong, or the shape of the of the bridge on the frame has
essentially changed the prescription.

When I put the glasses on, there is a noticeable loss in my ability to
see distances, especially reading highway signs. The shape of the
bridge on the frames actually puts them almost 10mm out on my nose
than my old glasses where the bridge was almost flush with the lenses.
If I press the new glasses closer to my face that seems to compensate,
but I'm still not getting the full distance vision particularly in my
right eye.

I'll be contacting Optical4less and sending back the glasses to have
them check the prescription, but if it turns out to be the frames I'm
going to be seriously disappointed. I have not read anywhere online
about the shape of the bridge being a factor in terms of a
prescription, and I had researched everything pretty thoroughly prior
to my purchase.
