Lord May, the retiring President of the Royal Society gave his speech on that topic last year. See: http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk/publication.asp?id=2181 You are correct that global warming is not the only problem, but all the problems have one cause: over population. If the global population was only 100 million, then global warming would not be happening because so much less fossil fuels would need to be burnt. However, the first major break to the current earth system due to the huge and rising global population will be as a result of anthropogenic greenhouse gases disrupting the climate. Climate change has destroyed civilisations in the past, and there seems no good reason why it should not do so in the future.
