I was assuming they were doing a keyword search rather than a full text
search. I should have checked. I was wrong.
On the other hand the return of one result on the search for "global
warming" has a link to "similar results" which returns well over a thousand.
This is probably not deliberate but is just clunky software. If you want to
search a website you are better off using Google directly.
search
"global warming" site:whitehouse.gov
and get 440 hits. (NB no blank after the colon.)

While I am not one to assume that both sides are equally at fault on any
given matter, on the matter of the toxic habit of making perfectly pointless
tempests out of perfectly innocent teapots the left and the right share the
blame pretty much symmetrically, at least in America.
This is a case in point. Nobody is hiding anything if somebody's search
function doesn't act exactly as you would expect. Web programming is not
that easy, and I doubt the whitehouse operation is all that well-funded.
Please give this one a rest. Barring much stronger evidence it seems to me a
pointless provocation.
