John, I have a 415D #3817, and the unuseable fuel in the wings is pretty slight..when I am down to my last 6 gallons in the header tank, the left tank is bone dry, and the right has about 1 gallon which seems to get trapped. 2 things to note. As Percy said, if you top them off, they will likely leak from the cap on takeoff. It's just an uncomfortable annoyance. I fill them to about 1 1/2 inches from the top, and no problems. also, the header tank will get your attention if you run the wing tanks dry. I've done this, and when the header starts to drop, it drops like a rock! When this occurs, it's definately time for a pit stop. It's just amazing how fast that last 6 gallons dissapears. If you flight plan using 20 gallons as a conservative figure, you should be great.
