    Perhaps it was done intentionally.  As you said, it definately gets
your attention!  Hey, look, my
nose tank wire is nearly down to the cap, I'd better get down and get some
fuel ASAP!!!  (while I still
have enough 'fumes' to get me down safely)
    That's the way I'd read it. Much better to land 30 minutes to soon
than 30 seconds to late.   Much
easier on the undercarriage
