Hi Greg, assuming there is nothing wrong with the Coupe ( mine does not have a mixture control ) I shut mine off at the valve behind the instrument panel. This also works great to stop flooding on hot starts. Regards,Pete. -----Original Message----- From: Greg W. I just purchased my Ercoupe and I haven't had a chance to search through all of the archived mailing lists for this. I purchased my Ercoupe in Iowa and got an hour of training in it with a CFI for insurance purposes before taking it. He showed me that the Ercoupe didn't have an acceleration pump and to shut it off, told me to bring the mixture control all the way back then shove the throttle forward and the engine would quit. This worked well for the most part. The last couple times I tried shutting down during the cross country to Texas, it kept running after reducing mixture and applying throttle, I had to use the key to shut it down. I told the mechanic at the local airport (without Ercoupe experience) that I was having problems shutting down with the mixture so he started searching for carbs and parts (hasn't found any, yet!). I just read on the FAQ (http://www.ercoupers.com/ercoupers_faq.htm) that the key should be used to shut down the engine. Is this correct? How do you shut down your Ercoupe? I was always taught during training to use the mixture to shut down and NEVER use the key. If it is true that the Ercoupe can be shut down safely and correctly using the key, I'll have the local mechanic quit looking for carb parts!
