Lynn, There's no such thing as converting to an E model, per the FAA. You can convert to the D because that's spelled out in the type certificate. That gives you the legal increase in gross weight. If you can find an FAA person with an IQ above room temperature, you MAY get a 337 signed off to install a split elevator which, IMHO (and Fred Weick's), increased safety -- but that does NOT make it an E.
