My Ercoupe N3330H is a Model E Conversion. It is an FAA approved
conversion and a new Data plate with the date of the conversion has been
assigned. It shows the date of the conversion 1995, manufactured by
Engineering and Research, for Sanders Aviation Inc. and is therefor
maybe the only very very late model 415-E in existence.
(weird part is that the FAA registration has it still registered as a
415 C/D)
Brings me to the point that the ERcoupe Information letter #1 from
January first 1956 (Conversion of Ercoupes to Later Models) is listing
the 415-C and 415 C/D eligible for a conversion to either a D or
preferable an E Model to improve also the landing qualities and achieve
the 1400 # gross weight. (see attachment)

The fact that most Ercoupes are being converted to 415-D's lies in the
desire for more horsepower a lot of people have and unfortunately the
only STC available to put the O-200 engine in is the one Lee from
Skyport sells. I talked to him just a few month ago about it and he told
me that he filed two years ago for an extension of this STC to the whole
Ercoupe family of the later Type Certificate. No answers yet.

However both the Type certificates A-718 and A-787 explicitly name all
serial numbers from 113 thru 4423 and 4500 and up eligible to be
converted to a D model. This note was probably written when the 415-D
was the latest model in that line.

Type certificate A-787 lists Serial numbers 3779 and 4869 and up
eligible for model E's .
Since I can't imagine that only one earlier built Ercoupe is picked out
as eligible it can only mean that eligibility went all the way back to
these planes which were sitting on the ramp, unsold and had all the C/D
modifications being done to them. The latter number is the first true
model - E.

It all sounds probably weird to everyone here on the list , but I write
this to encourage more owners who think about enhancing their Ercoupes
to consider the maybe more hairy , complicated path to enhance the
landing capabilities of their Coupes by installing the split elevator.
It makes your Coupe safer and easier to land , no matter how you call
your Coupe then C, D or E .
