Thanks John for the information. I had the same system in my Swift as I am basically putting in my Coupe and learned years ago in my car racing days about electric fuel pumps and if at all possible they should have gravity feed and away from heat even the mounting instructions say no more than 140 degrees f. My intentions are to mount it on the front of the spar directly over the floorboards. I was curious if any one else has done these same mod's. Experience is the best teacher so I am touching base's with the group on the subject. I want the electric pump for backup beings that there > will be no gravity feed. You NEED the electric fuel pump as there is no gravity feed and if the mechanical pump fails, no engine. Secondly, since the engine driven pump is higher than the tank outlet, there's the possibility of vapor lock. The electric pump helps deal with that by pressurizing the line going into the engine driven pump. Furthermore, you should have the electric pump on during takeoff, landing, and any other critical phases of flight. I've seen installations where the electric pump was mounted too high to be fed by gravity from the wing tanks. Such installations by all rights should at the very least be disallowed if you ever intend to use auto fuel, and if it were my plane I'd disallow it regardless of the fuel I intended to use. Gravity feed to the pump inlet virtually eliminates any chance of vapor lock. Remember too that there's a difference between a carb for gravity feed and a carb for pressure feed. it may be a simple as changing the float setting, or it may not... Or, keep the header tank...
