You are correct when it comes to fuel starvation accidents they are one of
the most common reason for incidents and for some unknown reason it is
also the same for coupes.
The last couple of coupe crashes I heard about were fuel problems. Pilot
error in most cases but still fuel problems. Crashes with fuel in your lap
is not the only problem engine fire is a very serious problem with the
fuel so located. I worry a lot when I fly my Stits Playmate it has 29
gallons in the header tank and ten gallons behind the seat. One reason for
doing the mod is that with the 0-200 I want the added fuel of the larger
tanks and the STC states remove the header tank and I don't want to try
and change the STC.

When I first started looking at 'Coupes, that header tank worried me some
--
the post-crash fire statistics for any plane with similar tank placement
is
not so good.

So...I asked my very wise AP about it. His response, "Well, there's an
easy
fix -- don't crash." But seriously, he went on to point out that lots
more
GA pilots are killed by fuel exhaustion than fire. A pretty good point, I

think.
