The "...because..." part says it all, Ed.  Owned a Cessna 150 for 14
years, and got
my license therein.  Learned that you could slop through the pattern, and
pull it all
together on final.  One of my early lessons was where the instructor flew
to final at
pattern altitude, then used flaps to grease it on.  With a full 40 degrees
of barn door
out there, putting the nose down on the 150 did not increase air speed.
In fact, I
came to do my best landings at the higher flap settings!
  Not so with the `coupe.  If you do not have it right on the down wind,
you will make
a real hash of it.  But, when set up correctly, you can't buy a bad
landing. 
  In short, not "a higher skill level," but different application of
skill.
