I found that to stay on the ground and more or less in control of
things, you must hold the plane off the ground as long as possible. You
should have the wheel right back into you and more or less stall it the
last foot or two. That way the speed is so low that the plane just won't
fly any more. Also if I remember, if you had the wind from your left,
the tail would be kicked around to the right. To keep yourself going
straight down the runway, you would steer to the right, thus putting the
left aileron down, causing the wing to lift. If, in this case you hit
the brakes, the right one, being on the ground would give some slowing
and would cause the plane to swing straight down the runway. Then shove
the wheel somewhat forward to reduce the angle of attack and reduce
lift. Never the less with all the advice in the world, it can still be
damn scary. Keeping the touch down speed to a minimum is the main
secret. That is my three cents worth, for what it's worth. Now I have
to go and visit with the inlaws for a day or two. Fun fun fun!!! It's
sunny here in B.C. today. Dry and about 42*F I'll write to other
unanswered mail when I get back.
