What new format is that? Just in case you are referring to the new Compose window feature which became "mainstream" a couple of days ago ... as someone else here already pointed out, you can revert back to the old Compose window temporarily. There is a tiny triangle (arrow?) in the bottom right of the Compose window, where it is one of the choices. This works only for a while, as Google intends to make the new Compose window permanent, eventually. In the future, please don't "hijack" a message thread without changing the subject.
