darn.   yes and no.
since you suggested alt-m,  if figured this was indeed the official shortcut
(nowhere on g*d's internet can this be found documented!) ... it doesn't
work - but it's because it conflicts with another FF add-on.   Neither add
on allows the shortcut to be changed.  But at least now I know what the
shortcut is *supposed* to be, and get a full night's sleep
