Nor do I believe it wise to have too many chiefs with regard to the 
actual registration of the domains.

You can get Network Solutions to make changes even if you are not the 
listed owner if the need arises....I have done it, but I'm not telling how.

Anyway, this is a problem that stems from a lack of formal organization 
and in my opinion the solution is the creation of a formal organization 
to become the owner of such things so the existence of any single person 
is not controlling.  Its not just that people may lose interest or like 
many of us, have too few hours in a day to be able to act promptly when 
the need arises; accidents and fate intervene.
