It also has likely advantages, in that an introduction to FOSS through their existing platform is a step on the path to true salvation. ;-) But it will all depend on the availability of a volunteer willing to contribute such software. As we *are* a Linux group, I would expect most of our members are using some flavor of *nix, and not Microsoft, Apple, or whatever. Of course, maybe not. It does tend to be a multi-platform world. FWIW, I could provide CDs with a copy of OpenOffice for Windoze on it. > I will have more info on this next week, but I approached a local library > and they were enthusiastic. That sounds very promising. Another thought occurs to me: We should first try this in a "pilot program", with only one or two libraries, and with somebody willing to be very "hands on" during the startup stages. We will make mistakes; we want the feedback cycle to be short so we can fix them quickly. Start small, and grow. > In fact their tech/internet access/computer training operation for patrons > is handled by a non-profit that covers the northern part of NH and that > organization may want to expand it throughout the northern half of the > state. Can we contact that organization and introduce ourselves and this project? If they're a true "dedicated to helping others" non-profit, I would think they would be very interested. -- Ben Scott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | The opinions expressed in this message are those of the author and do | | not represent the views or policy of any other person or organization. | | All information is provided without warranty of any kind. | _______________________________________________ Gnhlug-org mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-org
