I sent an email to a few trusted friends, to ask some advice on how
to present the question on incorporating as a non-profit to the
group. That email got out of hand, spread to too many people, and
splattered onto the list. Obviously, I've got to reconsider my methods.

Be sure: *I am not accusing you or anyone else of trying to hide

The notes, rough as they are, are on GNHLUG, in the
SummerSummit2005Notes and GNHLUGNonProfit topics on the
Organizational web. There was no effort to hide anything. On the
contrary.
Now, I can only speak for myself, but I don't recall any
announcements regarding incorporation or adoption of bylaws at
recent Nashua meetings. Of course, I could have missed such an
announcement, even at a meeting I attended, and there could have
been announcements at other meetings (which I am guilty of not
attending).
The purpose of this PRIVATE email was to seek advice from previous
leaders on exactly how to make that announcement.
However, I am as sure as I can be that there has been no mention
of any of this on any of the discussion or announce mailing lists,
or on any of the websites. I checked lists and websites at
gnhlug.org, but centralug.org, dlslug.org, slug.gnhlug.org, and
pysig.org for this.
And if I wasn't one of the "privileged few" included in Ed
Lawson's email, I wouldn't be aware of *this* sub-discussion at all.
Of course, I'm just one person. Still, if it has been like that
for me -- someone who has been putting in an effort to be involved
-- I have to ask if "the membership at large" might be surprised by
all this.
Again: I am not against this. I suspect most people will be, at
worst, indifferent about this, and more likely in favor of it. I
think significant benefits would be brought by this. I just want
to make sure "everyone" knows this is going on before we start
presenting things for final approval.
Again, that was exactly my question in my PRIVATE email.
In other words, if the concern is that some might accuse us of
being a cabal, we should make every effort to make everyone aware
of what is going on at every step of the process.
If everyone thinks I'm just having paranoid delusions, just say
so, and I'll go back to talking to my Rice Krispies. ;-)

There is a cabal. It's just not a secret. It's a group of people
willing to give up a little extra time to join a meeting, the -org
list and to volunteer to do more. Invitations to the last meeting
were sent specifically to the 22 members I knew were active in
volunteering for the group, and invitations to that meeting and the
next one have also been sent to the group at large.
I've worked off-line on the suggestions made at the last meeting on
how to make the group a legitimate legal entity and the process of
becoming a non-profit. I've gathered enough material that I feel
competent to start a discussion. That email was seeking some guidance
on how to bring the topic up. Now, I suppose, that's moot. However,
I've been working on the announcement for days and will be posting it
soon.
Thanks for your interest. Thanks for caring so much about GNHLUG.
