My major concern here is the fact that it *was private*. Why make it private?

Again: I am not accusing anyone of hiding anything.

Let me put it this way: There are nice, good companies making
quality *closed* software. They listen to their customers and do a
good job in general. I still strongly prefer FOSS because it belongs
to you and me and Joe User and everyone else. It doesn't happen
behind closed doors. The privileged few are not the only ones who
have a say. Free as in Freedom. *Open* Source. Personal
empowerment. That's what this is about, to me, and I believe many
others on this list feel the same.

I feel strongly that GNHLUG should be the same way.

Well, I never saw the original email, of course. If you were
originally looking for guidance as to how to bring the topic up to
"the cabal" or on the -org list or at the Fall Summit or something,
that makes a bit more sense.

However, the feeling I got from the messages I did receive, was that
the discussion was about how to announce to the membership at large,
and in particular, concern about the very issues that I'm raising
here. To me, that kind of discussion should occur in an open, public
manner.

Again, my position is to always error on the side of being more public.
