  Yup.  I've become quite adept at killing X, resetting the keyboard,
switching to another VC, and reseting the display -- all blind.  :-)

  What continues to amaze me is that on Linux, the GUI display driver can
crash and lock the keyboard, and yet you can still fix it and pick up where
you left off if you know what you are doing.  On Windoze, an *application*
crash can destroy the machine.  Amazing!

  FYI: If you find yourself needing to do this, then install the "svgalib"
package.  It includes a program called "vga_reset", which can be used to get
your text-mode console back after a display crash.

  Ah.  Could be, that is why they called the development kernels
"development", after all.  Do you monitor the linux-kernel mailing list?

  Also, make sure you have the latest release of XFree.  XFree is not without
bugs, but they do fix them.
