I'll reserve judgement. You video problem could be because of the way
you treat your monitor ;-)

Same symptoms. I can ssh to it, su to root, and kill the X server.
AAAAAAAAAND..... The first time it happened was about 20 minutes after
reading Dereks post about the deivers for the SB LIVE!. I recompiled the
kernel to include sound as a module and installed the drivers, rebooted,
and everything was fine for about 10 minutes, then it froze up. I
figured it was just a glitch in E, so I got the latest soure and
recompiled it. It was fine for another few hours, then it happened
again, so I switched back to fvwm and it hasn't happened since.
