   Yes, I've used alien many times.  In fact, that was my first impulse:
copy the *.rpm files and convert them to *.deb.

   But then while playing with Applix's setup program (funny how setup
*requires* that the CD be mounted as /mnt/cdrom; I rather like mounting my
CDs as /cdrom), I noticed that it asked for serial numbers and such and
that's when I decided to back up and ask about it.
