Here are some tidbits, this is not an exhaustive list:
VMWare: - Hardware emulation, therefore slow
- Good for when you need to deal with multiple OSes
on one system simultaneously (Linux,NT,98)
- No Kernel mods necessary
- Great if you want to try out several versions of
Linux without compromising your "production"
system
- Requires OS media you wish use to install
Win4Lin: - Software emulation, therefore fast
- requires kernel mods
- limited to Win98
- good if you only need access to a few MS Apps
- Requires OS media you wish use to install
Wine: - Provides API level compatibility with MS function
calls
- Limited to running Windows Apps
- Under development, may or may not be stable at any
given time
- Does not require Windows media
HTH.
