I don't have any particular reason to recommend pump over dhcpcd
personally.
When I set up my masqing box at home (yup - on MediaOne), it got a fresh
RH 6.2 install and when I told it to do dhcp, pump was what it put in.
I've been using it since with no complaints.
When the friend of mine in question couldn't get his box to get an ip, I
suggested giving pump a try and it worked immediately.
This is about the grand sum of my experience with dhcp. *grin*
