I would agree to some extent that the cable company can change IP 
addresses. However, in defense of Mediaone, I have had 2 IP address changes 
in almost 4 years. The first was because Mediaone was renumbering the local 
area, the second was when I changed NICs.

I had some problems with earlier versions of DHCLIENT under propr versions 
SuSE. My solution was to edit the /var/state/dhcp/dhclient.leases. This is 
updated when dhclient runs. I found that dhclient was rejecting the olffer 
from the M1X dhcp server. Since the IP address had not changed, I just 
updated the dates and things ran ok. I have had no trouble with with 
dhclient running on SuSE 6.4
