There is a printer FAQ page. I personally use a Canon BJC 6000 which is 
connected to my Linux system. My wife prints to it from her Windows system. 
I prefer Canon printers in that they have ink tanks so that you don't have 
to replace the heads every time you refill.

This lists my 6000 as Partially. When I bought it, the FAQ classed it as 
perfectly. In any case the only thing I can't do in Linux is query the 
status of the tanks. There are several related printing lists.
